Magic Margin Vlog: Episode 2

In this episode of Magic Margin I wax on nostalgia. What is it? What nostalgic thoughts do I have lurking in my subconscious? Watch to find out.

  1. Well done and interesting.

Can one have nostalgia for past pains as well as pleasures?

    "Nostalgia" in Greek means homecoming-pain.

Don Quixote is a good example of a character who feels historic nostalgia for a past that never was -- the original member of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Now we have our own little quixotic Typewriter SCA going.

  2. There is that; nostalgia as an affliction. Yet the past also opens a much wider field for choosing 'nice' items, experiences; the selection becomes bigger.

In a way, to paraphrase somebody; the past can be a nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there :)

(Just viewed SCA pages - that was a new one for me. Wow. Hm, very consciously organizing 'a visit', they are.)
((A thought then, would any tw owners dress in period costume to use a machine?))
